Northern Ireland Charolais Offer High Animal health status, complete traceability, a genetic performance recording system and outstanding growth and conformation.

Northern Ireland is in a unique position to offer livestock for local commercial farms or for export to other countries due to its high animal health status and its location on the periphery of Europe. When you add the excellent traceability system which tracks an animal throughout its lifetime, the recording system which describes the genetic potential of the animals for all the important traits, and the husbandry skills of the breeders, then you can have confidence in our livestock.

The Charolais was the first Continental breed to be imported into Northern Ireland. On arrival in the province in the early 1960's the Charolais immediately demonstrated its superiority over native breeds in terms of growth rate, conformation and killing out percentage.

Over the years the Charolais in Northern Ireland has delivered the following benefits:

* Outstanding growth potential with very good daily liveweight gains.

* A versatile breed which can be finished at various weights and ages and which thrives on any system - grass based or intensive.

* Excellent conformation with tremendous muscling.

* Good killing out

* A carcase preferred by processors supplying the multiples and by butchers who supply discerning clientele and niche markets

* A very docile breed

* Charolais delivers a distinct colour code to its commercial progeny which gives added confidence to buyers.

* The Charolais female also has the potential to be a functional commercial suckler cow.
