Ballymena bulls peak at 6,400gns
Charolais bulls met a solid trade selling to a top of 6,400gns in Ballymena on Monday 3 May at the Northern Ireland Club’s show and sale.
Fixture topper at 6,400gns was the day’s senior male, supreme male and overall champion, Fieldview Davinci, a 19 month old by Oldstone Egbert owned by Harold Stubbs, Lisnaskea, and bred by the Fieldview herd of David Erskine Monaghan. This champion animal was knocked down to Sidney Rea, Ballyclare, Antrim.
Two lots attracted the next highest call at 4,000gns. First to go was the first lot through the ring, the reserve senior male champion, Ovill Dynamo, a two year old Pirate son and out of a hombred dam going back to Moyness Maharajah. Bred by the O’Kane Bros, Dungiven, Dynamo was knocked down sold to Colin Maxwell, Clough, Downpatrick.
The second 4,000gns bid was made by Dickson Graham, Kells, Ballymena for the reserve junior male, Backburn Enrique, a 14 month old by the 16,000gns Balmyle Vagabond and out of a Derrygiff Mills sired homebred cow from David Jones, Belfast.
The 15 month old Drumilly Extraspecial attracted 3,500gns from Wilson Bonnar and Sons, Ballymena. Bred by JR Paynter, Armagh, he was by the 19,000gns reserve junior Perth champion, Corrie Alan and out of a Drumlone bred cow going back to Brampton Nonsense.
Next at 3,100gns was Drumfin Dynamic from B and J Buchannan, Hillsborough to the Cleggan Estate, Ballymena. Sired by Nevers, this 19 month old was out of a homebred cow by Dolland Puffdaddy.
BJ Wilson and Sons, Newry offered their 15 month old Ballinlare Explosion for 2,800gns to WJ McClintock, Ballymena. Sired by the 16,000gns reserve Perth champion, Newhouse Voodoo son, his Moyness bred dam went back to Moyness Saltire.
Two entries shared a 2,200gns price tag. First was Woodpark Dijon, a 17 month old by Rumsden Tsar and out of a homebred dam by Indurin. Bred by Will Short, Omagh, he was knocked down sold to J Orr, Plumbridge, Tyrone.
The second 2,200gns bid was made by the Edgar Bros, Downpatrick for Mullaghbane Edgar, a 13 month old by the home bred Mullaghbane Carlos and out of a home bred dam from WEF Elliott, Mullaghbane. Earlier on Edgar had been awarded the junior male and reserve male supreme championship.
