The best ever NI Charolais Autumn Bull Sale took place on Friday at Dungannon Farmers Mart!
Prices peaked at 5600gns for the reserve supreme champion at the NI Charolais Club’s autumn show and sale in Dungannon Farmers Mart.. Brother Domino Et ,a Doonally new son by an Brother Ursula dam which was exhibited by Trevor Phair, Enniskillen was knocked down to Alex Ferguson Aughnacloy.
Ten of the 26 bulls sold made over 4000gns, a true reflection of the confidence held by breeders through out Northern Ireland of the proven performance of Charolais suckler calves over the autumn season with many of this years calves making up to £4,000 at sales.
Many of the bulls offered have been prizewinners at the various shows over the summer months and have participated in the Fintona and Dectomax championships. The judge Basil Bothwell from Killyshandra Co Cavan commented on the excellent line up of Charolais Bulls on show and congratulated the breeders for their dedication and hard work. He stated that the Charolais breed are currently leading the field in performance, growth potential excellent conformation.
Following close was Clogher Diamond sired by French bull, Major and exhibited by Joe Kelly of Clogher Valley Breeding Services fetched an impressive 5400gns and was purchased by A Loughran Cookstown.Clogher Diamond’s dam is bred by Doonally New. Semen from this top class bull, Major is available in Northern Ireland from Joe Kelly, Clogher Valley Breeding Services.This bull transmits power and correctness and this has been proven in the keen bidding for this animal.
Next in line was Junior Champion, Drumconnis Dallas, yet another fine bull sired by Doonally New, owned by John McGrath Dromore coming under the hammer at a princely sum of 5000gns and purchased by T J Kelly Londonderry. Well known breeder Harold Stubbs exhibited Derryharney Dreamer sired by Hillviewfarm Perfect which came first in its class and was knocked down to I Hetherington Omagh at 4800gns.
Derek Campton Cookstown exhibited the supreme champion of the evening with yet another son of Doonally New, Dunmore Duran, a nineteen month old bull by dam Dunmore Ulstergirl which was sold to Kyle McCall, Collone for 4500gns. Three bulls each made an impressive 4400gns such was the interest in the Charolais breed.
Gordon Cutler Enniskillen sold Gortdonaghy Dice, sired by Cloonmore Bernard and the reserve junior champion to Sam Calvin Coleraine,
John McGrath Dromore sold a Doonally New son, Drumconnis David to Mark Thompson Kesh and Brian Phair exhibited Corryglass Dazzler yet another Doonally New son and sold it to Ian Brown Enniskillen
Cormac McKervey Agriculture Manager Ulster Bank who sponsored the event said he was delighted to be involved with the event and was impressed with the quality of cattle on offer.
