Dungannon peaks at 8,200 Guineas
Charolais bulls met a strong demand selling to a top of 8,200gns and with 27 lots trading to average £2,907 in Dungannon on Monday 30 May at the NI Charolais Club’s spring show and sale.
Sale leader at 8,200gns was the Senior Male Champion and overall Reserve Supreme Champion in show; the 16 month old Corrick Firestone TI+13, SRI +21, a son of the 55,000gns Thrunton Voldemort and out of a Coolnaslee bred cow. Bred and exhibited by Cecil McIlwaine, Plimbridge Rd Newtownstewart, Tyrone, Corrick Firestone sold to John McBride, Plumbridge, Tyrone.
Next at 5,200gns was Mountain Eddie, who was placed second in his class an 18 month old exhibited by Liam Johnston, Tempo, Fermanagh. Sired by Lisbawn Valour and out of a Derrygiff dam, he was knocked down sold to Thomas Grant, Donaghmore, Newry.
A bid of 4,800gns from George Wallace Florencecourt Fermanagh, secured the Junior Male Champion and overall Supreme Champion of the show, the 13 month old Moorlough Falcon TI +28, SRI +26. An Oldstone Egbert son, he was out of a homebred cow from James McBride, Strabane, Tyrone.
The 15 month old Tonaghmore Firestone TI +28, SRI +31 was placed first in his class and changed hands at 4,100gns to the Devlin Brothers, Coagh. Bred by Harold Crawford, Fintona, Tyrone, he was by Mullaghbane Topline and out of a homebred dam.
Placed second in his class Corcreevy Fyfe TI +34, SRI +38, a 15 month old by Doonally New and out of a Glencardon bred dam from Desmond Orr, Fivemiletown, Tyrone, was bought at 3,600gns by James Kane, Doagh, Antrim.
Mullanary Edddally TI +19, SRI +21, a 21 month old from C Daly, Dungannon, Tyrone made 3,250gns to David McIlwaine, Newtownstewart, Tyrone. A Bova Banker son, he was out of Oscar Samantha who goes back to Derrygiff lines and earlier in the day was awarded the Reserve Male Championship.
Next at 3,200gns was Aughafad Fantastic, a 16 month old by Gwenog Banker and out of a Tullylagan cow. Bred and exhibited by RH Sinnamon, Pomeroy, Dungannon, he sold to Robert Watson, Augher, Tyrone.
Two lots shared a 3,100gns bid. First to go was Drummeer Fido TI +17, SRI +32, a 16 month old by Killadeas Jack and out of a homebred dam from Edwin Morrison, Maguiresbridge, Fermanagh. The buyer was M Hamilton, Castlederg, Tyrone.
The second 3,100gns call was made by Brian Kerlin, Donemana TI+16, SRI +23, for Bellarena Fitzroy from Mark McConway, Limavady, Derry. This animal was awarded the Reserve Junior Champion. A Thrunton Voldemort son, he was out of a Tongahmore bred cow and secured the reserve junior male title.
Heifers also met a strong demand selling to a top of 3,500gns for the Reserve Female Champion of the show, the rising two year old Derryharney Edna TI +19, SRI +20. Sired by the 10,000gns Perth champion Thrunton Bonjovi, she was out of a homebred dam from Harold Stubbs, Lisnaskea, Fermanagh and sold to M Murphy, Ballynahinch.
Two lots made 3,000gns. First was the Female Champion of the show, Ovill Emerald TI +20, SRI +20, a 21 month old by Lyonsdemesne Tzar and out of a homebred dam. Bred and exhibited by the O’Kane Brothers, Dungiven, Londonderry she went home with B Reavey, Newry. Minutes later the second 3,000gns call was made by Sam Flanagan, Armagh for Class winner Drumlone Floss TI+35, SRI +39, a 16 month old by Fury Action and out of a Ballygarris bred dam going back to Doonally New. Floss was bred and exhibited by K C Veitch, Lisbellaw, Fermanagh.
