NI Vice Chairman for Charolais Society
The British Charolais Society has appointed Martin Donaghy from Dungannon as its new vice chairman
at the annual general meeting held during the Royal Show. This is only the second time that a Northern Ireland breeder has held this post.
As a partner in the very successful legal firm of Rafferty and Donaghy, Dungannon Martin still finds time for his farm and the Crannon Charolais herd. Two years ago he had a double success in the Dectomax championships at Clogher Valley Show when he was awarded both the junior male and female championships. The junior male champion was Crannon Brian an Oldstone Egbert son out of Deerfin Rebecca. Taking the junior female title was Crannon Beauty by the French sire, Icare. Beauty then went on last year to take the senior female championship at the NI National Charolais Show at Fintona. Martin is a past vice chairman of the NI Charolais Club and a year ago was elected unto the council of the British Charolais Society. His valuable input and negotiating skills were quickly noticed and Council elected him vice chairman at the AGM. After his election Martin commented “ I am pleased to represent a breed that will play such an important role in the future. Food security is top of everyone’s agenda and a breed that grows quickly and produces a lot of lean meat will certainly be in demand.” John McGrath , chairman of the NI Charolais Club added “ The Northern Ireland region is delighted that one of its members has been selected for this very important position. We know that Martin will represent the breed and the Northern Ireland region very successfully at Council, and we wish him every success in that role.”
