An Experience to remember
Taking part in this years UK Stock Judging Final will certainly be remembered by our local competitors for years to come. The group left Northern Ireland in the early hours of the morning to travel to the farm of Sheilagh & Peter Donger Seawell Towcester Northamptonshire.
Young people from all over the UK made their way to the Donger farm for this event. There was an opportunity to judge three rings of cattle, enjoy excellent hospitality and join a farm tour of the extensive enterprises located in the beautiful countryside of Northampton.
Peter is well known for the impressive Charolais show team he took to the Royal Show, and world known for his specialised Saler herd. On the tour the young people got the chance to see everything from aged cows to the very young calves. Also several of the stock bulls that Peter has invested in, Killadeas Barney, Thrunton Voltage and a Saler bull that broke the world record in France.
The group were introduced to a new twist in commercial cattle breeding; using Saler cows and a Charolais bull, the Saler cow for her milk and maternal abilities with the Charolais bull for style and muscle, producing calves with excellent shape style and locomotion. The finale being the results and a win for Stuart Wilson of Northern Ireland with Peter Somerville being placed third in his age group. Congratulations to all who attended this event and we wish Stuart a wonderful experience at the French Charolais Show.
14yrs – 17yrs Peter Somerville was placed third
18yrs – 30 yrs Stuart Wilson was placed first he also won a trip to the French Charolais Show in September.
