Northern Ireland Charolais Club Annual dinner and Presentations. The Northern Ireland Charolais Club Annual Dinner took place this year in Valley Hotel Fivemiletown, where over one hundred members, guests and sponsors attended a gala evening of excellent food, presentations and music.

 

Among the guests were Stewart Bothwell, President and Martin Donaghy, chairman of the British Charolais Society, Brian King President of The Royal Ulster Society and Randal Hayes, Chairman of the Ballymena Show Society.

A large number of sponsors who contributed to the financial operation of the events through out the year also attended. These included Ian Cummings of Irwins Feeds who sponsor a class at the Fintona Show and the June Show and Sale at Dungannon. Cormac McKervey, Ulster Bank sponsor the suckled calf competition in the autumn and the March Show and Sale in Dungannon and John Henning Northern Bank who sponsor the Spring Show and Sale in Dungannon.

Other sponsors unable to attended the event included Moore Concrete, and United Feeds.

The Chairperson, Sandra Cochrane in her address spoke of the dedication and support given by sponsors over the years and without their financial support many of the events through out the year simply would not take place. She also thanked the breeders for an excellent show of cattle though out the year, ensuring that the Charolais breed are to the forefront of genetic breeding in commercial herds.  

“This kind of dedication to the Charolais breed demands an enormous amount of time, hard work and forward planning, and I would like to thank the breeders and their families for their dedication to the breed, with particular reference to the Cydectin Final at Clogher and the Fintona Show, some of the best cattle ever presented were on show and many spectators from the UK and Eire commented on the excellent breeding quality and high level of presentation which makes the Charolais breed famous throughout Northern Ireland and beyond.” Sandra stated.

The Chairperson thanked Harry Marquess and family for hosting a wonderful evening in the summer for the young stock judging event and to Mr & Mrs Harrison Boyd for hosting the recent Charolais Club Barbeque which raised a record amount of money to support the new Children’s Hospice in Fermanagh.

Sandra concluded by thanking the people present for making the annual dinner such a resounding success and the secretary, Mary McCormack for her hard work and support. After a delicious meal and presentation of awards the large attendance danced the night away to the brilliant sound of the Take Two Band.
