Dectomax Championship Roaring Success
The 2008 Dectomax Charolais championships rivalled beef cattle competitions anywhere when they brought out a line-up of quality cattle that stole the show at Clogher Valley. The first class out to the ring was the senior bull class for animals born 1 April to 31 July 2007. This was a very large class which gave judge, Richard Tucker, from Swansea plenty of choice. His champion in this section was a very smart bull from William Oliver’s herd at Omagh. At only one year old, Clanabogan Charlie, a Doonally New son, is already showing his growth and conformation potential and has taken the Charolais championship at Omagh and at Clogher Valley.
Leading the Intermediate bull class was Stewart and David Bothwell from Ballinamallard with Killadeas Council , a son of their very successful stock sire Dunlon Ulick which was bred many champion anaimals for this father and son team. Paul McGovern, Clogher took home the junior bull championship with a January calf, Shanco Dynamo by Garracloon Vidame.
Gilbert Crawford, Maghera, led the senior heifer class with Coolnaslee Countess by his noted stock sire Allanfauld Superscot, while Devin Brothers, Strabane showed Brownhill Claire, a heifer by Shaen Topper to carry off the Intermediate heifer championship. Gilbert Crawford featured again in the junior heifer section with yet another Allanfauld Superscot daughter, Coolnaslee Diane.
John McGrath, chairman of the NI Charolais Club thanked all of the exhibitors for bringing out such a wonderful display of cattle. He paid trbute to Pfizer Animal Health, the manufacturers of Dectomax and the British Charolais Society for their sponsorship of the event and Richard Tucker for the professional manner in which he carried out his judging task.
