Ben Wins Again
Ben Sinnamon has again this year won the overall champion award at young Judging competition which was held this year at Allaister Houston’s Farm in Scotland. This one day event where young Charolais breeders test their judging skills attracts a large number of young people and Ben Sinnamon who lives on his parents farm at Pomeroy Co Tyrone won the accolade for the second year running. Ben has had plenty of experience at stock judging with the County Tyrone Young Farmers, and has judged at Dungannon Mart for the Northern Ireland Charolais Club.
Ben helps to manage the pedigree Charolais Aughafad herd and also a commercial herd along with his parents, Robert and Betty. “It’s a delight to travel over to Scotland and again win the Young Judges Competition, it will give other young people the incentive to try their hand at stock judging. I would also like to that United Feeds for their financial support for the competition”.
Sam Watson of United Feeds, the specialists in ruminant feed suppliers, who sponsored the young peoples judging stated that they were delighted to be involved with the Young Peoples Judging and congratulated Ben for his two in a row and stated that it was good to see young people especially girls, having an interest in judging and being given the opportunity to represent Northern Ireland.
Ben along with his team mate Stuart Wilson from Derrylin Co Fermanagh went on to come third in the team section. Stuart breeds his own Charolais cattle and works for a beef farmer near Fivemiletown, his dad owns Teemore Engineering in Enniskillen.
Not to be out done, the females were very well represented at the Young Peoples Judging in Scotland by the McGovern Sisters, Clodagh and Eimear who hail from Clogher where they help their father well known Tyrone breeder Sean McGovern with his pedigree herd in their spare time and exhibit at many shows through out Northern Ireland including Balmoral.
Sandra Cochrane, First ever lady Chair of the Northern Ireland Charolais Club, congratulated the four young people who represented Northern Ireland and a special word of congratulation to Ben for his overall win for the second year running.
